More City & Guilds Module snippets!

The course with the The School of Stitched Textiles really allowed me to move out of the comfort zone.
You know the course is so varied in content there is no room to get complacent.

For instance this print below.  The brief was use an artist style to design a Print.  This stops you, it did in my case (!), from falling into the designs you usually come up with.

I used Paul Klee's Full Moon (1919).  I did manage to make the stencil achieve a border repeat and made a Lino cut stamp for the tree.  Fun and challenging!

Another, Module 7, had us making beads, buttons, tassels, braids and edgings to fabric panels...loads!
I personally love these  fabric bell tassels on hand made cord.  I believe the design comes from India...

Here's some of the other tassels that were the least unwieldy to fit into my Module 7 Sample fabric book!

This is a Lantern!  The base fabric is Organdie.  Fun was had researching into the best fabric stiffener because i have to do things to the detail!

Nice with the battery powered candle inside.

Now this piece...what can i say i had an idea and I'm still not convinced is the best solution.
I can tell you the bits i love, like the central Coffee Pot Hand Embroidery motif.  I love the deconstructed patchwork ground fabric hand dyed with walnut and Brusho ink. And i love the idea of the outside shape looking like an old shop sign...

BUT...there is just something that's not quite right.....and i am just too close in time to see what action to take oh well!

Is the background too big, too wide, too long, should the pot been bigger, should i have left in the cup motif?

Anyhoo, that was Module 10.
I've sent off the Module 11 PowerPoint Portfolio and awaiting feedback!
No interesting hand Embroidering for that!!  Although don't tell anyone I'm finishing my samples i worked for Module 1...the backgrounds needed working to make the central design 'sit' on the ground fabric!!!
Lets hope i don't decide to go through everything, which is what i want to do, otherwise i can't finish the course!

So thanks for reading, please feel free to comment and thanks for coming!

Adore Lamor Fabric Dyeing!

I love fabric dyeing! I was looking at the fabric I have for sale on my ebay shop and the fabric that flew off the shelf and knew I had to replace....woohoo!! Which colours was the question, as I'm walking my dog through the wildflower meadow in my local park!  Ah yes meadow colours! Buff no brainer!   So here we go kitchen and diner transformation...ta da....chemistry lab! No really everything has to get covered by a cover, as the dyes get everywhere!     My complicated and expensive tools (!) Although the metal measuring spoons and the thermometer are essential and a brilliant buy as they make ME more accurate in my measurements!    I use 100% cotton calico PDF ready to dye fabric.  The fabric is steeping in warm water to open the fibres to take the dye.   Keeping an eye on the temperature of the water, it should be around 110 degrees to add to the powder dye.    Yes...

City & Guilds Hand Embroidery at The School of Stitched Textiles

So this is part of the Module 11 to create a Professional Profile! It is interesting to see the images of my work....i think i need to work on the images! Haaaahuuuu a Photo shoot i guess! Do leave a comment, i would be interested to hear your thoughts....working on own does have its drawbacks regarding feedback, however, for someone like me that gets easily distracted it is the preferred method (i would get on others nerves distracting them!) Oh yes my school reports are still true today!

What a life!

Hey you! An amusing thing happened on the way back from the pub...... I am typing here with a sore thumb, so i cannot knit, sew and it is driving me crackers!! Where did this begin...well....My hope of the perfect shop for my business fell into an abyss as the landlord for some reason became elusive after I signed the lease. The letting agency could not understand it either. So there i was sitting on a couple of thousand pounds worth of supplies and no-where to go. My head was kettled . After three months hard work making my own stuff to sell as well as ordering beautiful yarns and equipment. Sourcing fabrics and so on I was mentally exausted when this happened. A short holiday would clear my head ready for the next push to selling my wares before Christmas , I thought. Do me good, I thought. So up to the lower Lake District in England, the bloke at home, the mad English mastiff , the motor home and me off on a jolly. Little did we know it would rain all week......No not jus...
